KPK investigators arrested search office of legislator

The Jakarta Post said,
Corruption investigators have searched the office of legislator arrested Bulyan Royan and the House of Representatives' Commission V secretariat, in connection with an alleged case of bribery (pictured right).

Bulyan, a legislator from the Reform Star Party (PBR) and member of the House Commission V overseeing infrastructure and transport, allegedly accepted bribes worth 120 million rupees (U.S. $ 13 million) in a patrol boat acquisition front of the Ministry of Transport.

A team of more than 15 investigators from the Commission on Corruption Eradication (KPK) spent more than six hours on Thursday looking for rooms. They collected five boxes and two large containers of documents.

KPK director of research Widaryatmo Bambang, who led the search, he refused to explain the nature of the documents.

Bulyan was arrested by the KPK last week. The graft body was confiscated USD 66000 and 5500 euros, alleging the money was a bribe from businessman Suwarsono Dedi, one of five winners in the bidding process. Dedi was also arrested.

Dedi has denied the bribery allegation, saying that the five businessmen were asked to pay Bulyan and the Ministry of Transportation to 3.3 billion rupees in fees in order to win the operation.

Dedi's lawyer Kamaruddin Simanjuntak said that his client had requested the payment of fees at a meeting with Bulyan in a hotel in South Jakarta. The meeting, Kamaruddin said, was facilitated by two officials from the Ministry of Transport.

The ministry has suspended two officials, TP Malau and Didik Suhartono, for their alleged involvement in the case.

Malau was in charge of transaction documents for the patrol boat deal. Didik was head of the committee responsible for the tender for the project.

The ministry has not suspended Djoni Algamar, the official in charge of the budget committee.

Didik was scheduled interrogation of a session at the KPK office on Thursday but was cancelled.
